Publishers, schools, and others who wish to host a reception or party have a few options. Please note that due to a full concert schedule every evening and the hotels being at some distance from the conference site, the standard reception and party practice may not work well for this meeting. Sponsors may announce their events here.
- A separate self-enclosed reception at either the 21st century Zelnick Pavillion, a glass structure adjacent to the chapel that can hold about 100 people standing, the 19th century Russell House a block away from the main conference activities, which can accommodate about 150 people seated or standing, or some other room at the conference site. As there will be three simultaneous concerts or workshops per evening, many of which will go to midnight, we do not anticipate much free time for conference attendees to move to a reception and suggest options #2 or #3.
- Sponsoring an intermission or pre- or post-concert (or film) reception or party. The concerts are organized informally according to geographic region and will consist of SEM members performing. A schedule of the concerts will be available on this blog by August. The various concerts and participants are listed on this blog. We anticipate that the informality of these concerts will lend itself well to socializing either during one or more intermissions and immediately before or after the concerts. Transportation will be available to bring people to their hotels after midnight.
- Meeting in one section of the large outdoor picnic area during the Sunday afternoon recreation time (1:30pm-3:30pm). This setting may lend itself well to school reunion gatherings and encourage interaction not only among reunion attendees, but also with similar neighboring gatherings. Sponsors may of course bring whatever refreshments they deem appropriate. In case of rain, we will move to the indoor fieldhouse and Usdan Center.
- Signing up for a corner of the Usdan Center lobby, the main public gathering place for the conference.
We do not have a liquor license so alcohol cannot be sold at any event on campus. However, people may make their own arrangements. Sponsors will also be responsible for dealing directly with caterers (see below for a list).
Scheduling a reception or party (either a stand-alone event or sponsoring) should be done through the Indiana University Conferences office.
